Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah
Executive Chairman
Born in 1953 in Ghana, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah is one of Africa’s most internationally accomplished public servants and corporate executives, with vast experience on several corporate boards. He served as Ghana’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Minister of Communications, Minister of Education and Acting Minister of Mines & Energy. From 1994 to 1996, he served as Ghana’s ambassador to the United States and Mexico. A graduate of the University of Ghana, Ohio University and New York University, Ekwow has served as the CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) based in London. He is a former member of UNESCO’s Executive Board and former director of publicly listed firms such as South Africa Telekom, AngloGold Ashanti and Vodacom.

Dr. Barnor established the Action Medical Centre after the Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams introduced her to Integrative medicine in 2013. She ran the medical centre for 3years, after which she returned to Barnor Memorial. Hospital, a hospital her father had turned over to her to run in the year 1995. She, however, continued to use the knowledge she had acquired and noted the superior outcomes obtained when she applied these methods to the management of her patients, particularly those with chronic conditions and the elderly.

Dr. G. Akanlug Agulijam

Akanlug Agulijam is a hands-on professional with competences, experience and qualifications in Financial Management, Business Strategy, Business Development [for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)] and Corporate Restructuring; Human and Institutional Capacity Building, Youth Development and Empowerment; Resilience Building, Institutional Strengthening, Organisation Development (OD), Advocacy and Community-Driven Development (CDD) Approaches.
He has been involved in Feasibility Studies, Research and Baseline surveys; Mid-Term Reviews (MTR), End-Term Evaluations (ETE), Independent Verification of Projects, Monitoring, Evaluation and Performance Management; Private Enterprise Development support, Business Innovations and Incubation support; Corporate Governance and Development Finance.
Additionally, he has been in the development and preparation of proposals, business concepts, business plans, strategy papers, public/private policy documents and other relevant documentation.
He holds a BA degree, an MBA (Financial Management) and Doctorate degree with concentration in Financial Strategy and Business Development. These have been acquired in Ghana and the United Kingdom (UK).
He has over twenty-five (25) years of experience in Ghana, a good number of African countries and the United Kingdom (UK).
His clients and partners have been in the public sector and its interface with the Private Sector, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Charities and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as well as donor-funded projects (bilateral and multilateral) in Ghana, the West African Sub-region and the United Kingdom.
ome of his clients and partner organisations are – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Office for Projects Services (UNOPS), European Union (EU), World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA), Global Partnership on Output-Based Aid (GPOBA), Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) – Sanitation and Water Project (SWP) – IDA funded, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), African Development Bank (AfDB), Resilient African Network (RAN) – the West Africa Resilient Lab (WARILAB) – a USAID sponsored programme among others.
He has operated in the following sectors – Financial Services and Development Financing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Environment and Resource Development; Agriculture, Agribusiness and Value Chain Development; Energy, Renewable Energy, Governance, Health, Education and other social services.
In academia, he was a lecturer at the London College of Management Studies (LCMS) in the UK and a part-time lecturer at the Concord Business College in Accra.
He serves/served on a good number of Boards.

Currently, he is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the BULATON Business Centre, responsible for the provision of strategic leadership and technical direction as well as the overall planning, management and development of businesses and projects for BULATON, its clients and partners.
Sebastian Kobby Spio-Garbrah

Sebastian is the immediate past board chair of the Canada-Africa Chamber of Business, Canada’s largest Africa-focused trade association. Sebastian served as the vice board chair of the Toronto-based Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (Childfund International), and a former board director of the New York and Tel Aviv based Jewish Heart for Africa (Innovation Africa). Sebastian currently serves as a Special Envoy to the African Continental Free Trade Secretariat.
Sebastian has since 2010 served as the Global Managing Director & Chief Frontier Markets Analyst at DaMina Advisors. At DaMina, Sebastian has provided board-level political risk counsel on dozens of major transactions in Africa in excess of $30bn. Sebastian has previously advised former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Commission on Africa, as well as the governments of Canada, Malta and the United States on Africa.
A prolific writer and an ambidextrous thinker, Sebastian has published extensively on political risk mitigation strategies in global frontier and emerging markets. His early accurate published forecasts of the potential overthrow of Egypt’s Mubarak which triggered the Arab Spring, the severe banking crisis in Nigeria, the Ivorian civil war and Kenya’s fraught election among many other prescient analyses earned him New York’s Institutional Investor Magazine ‘Top 30 under 30 Analysts’ designation.
Sebastian led the US debt capital markets surveillance unit at Thomson Reuters in New York where he provided extensive capital markets investor relations advice on over $10bn high yield fixed income instruments. Sebastian helped establish the Middle East & Africa practice at leading global political risk consultancy firm, Eurasia Group in New York, London and Tokyo. He concurrently served as the Africa sovereign risk analyst for a novel synthetic risk index developed by Eurasia Group with Lehman Brothers, Deutsche Bank, and Citigroup.
Sebastian holds a B.A (double major) in Economics and Political Science from Middlebury College, Vermont, USA and a Juris Doctor of Laws (J.D) from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA. Sebastian is a Fellow of the Washington DC Centre for the Study of the Presidency.
Nana Spio-Garbrah

Nana Spio-Garbah is the Manager of the Client Solutions Division at the African Development Bank responsible for financial products development particularly around risk mitigation, structured finance as well as sovereign lending and project finance advisory. Her division focuses on driving financial innovation in AfDB-led transactions using local currency, insurance, guarantees and derivatives. She also leads the AfDB’s balance sheet optimization initiatives which seek to risk share on the Bank’s seasoned loans and assets at origination with public and private sector counterparties as part of the institution’s exposure management strategies. She has worked on the structuring of large-scale public and private sector infrastructure transactions throughout her 12-year career at the AfDB. Prior to the Client Solutions division, she has worked in various other departments including Treasury, Resource Mobilization and External Finance and the energy sector PPPs origination team.
Prior to joining the AfDB, she worked for Deloitte Consulting as a Senior Consultant in the Public Sector practice where her main clients were the U.S. Treasury and U.S. Justice Departments.
Ms. Spio-Garbrah holds a M.Sc. in Finance and Development from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and a bachelor’s degree in International Economics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS).
